We’re hiring a lead carpenter to work on our high-end residential construction projects. Dowbuilt lead carpenters have highly advanced interior and exterior carpentry skills and a demonstrated ability to execute work within very tight tolerances. This position requires an aptitude for providing creative constructability solutions to a variety of design challenges and is key to executing the high-quality work that Dowbuilt is known for.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a lead carpenter, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Assisting with pickup framing, rough framing, finish carpentry, site protection, etc. as needed
  • Managing material deliveries, handling, storage, and placement
  • Assisting the superintendent with building layout and dimensional control
  • Field verification of shop drawings as directed by the superintendent and project engineers
  • Working and planning with subcontractors to make sure the project is ready for them to begin work each day
  • Running small projects as a working lead; coordinating and directing crew and subs to maximize productivity
  • Providing mentoring and coaching to fellow carpenters and laborers 
  • Maintaining job site security and safety (i.e., ensuring safety of all people, tools, and materials)
  • Identifying when other workers or subcontractors are not working in a safe manner and reporting unsafe practices to the superintendent
  • Assisting the superintendent with creation of the short-interval schedule and being responsible for its execution
  • Assisting the superintendent with maintaining accurate documentation across all field systems
  • Maintaining effective, respectful communication at all times with field crew, subs, clients, partners, and team
  • Helping to plan and communicate site production expectations with crew daily; participating in quality control

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

To be successful as a Dowbuilt lead carpenter, you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of high-end residential carpentry experience 
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications
  • Ability to line out crew and subcontractors and communicate/maintain Dowbuilt quality standards 
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable, personal transportation to get to/from work safely and on time. (Appropriate personal vehicle recommended that facilitates transport of essential tools/materials, and capable of accomplishing common job-site related errands and tasks. Company vehicles are not assigned to foremen, although occasional driving of a company vehicle may be required.)
  • Must complete or already have acquired the appropriate safety training commensurate with the position and location (ongoing safety training provided)
  • Ability to follow instructions, take notes and perform work as designated
  • Ability to be an active listener, ask for help and suggest solutions
  • Demonstrate discretion and treat all proprietary company information as strictly confidential outside, and in some cases within, the company
  • Be a team player and foster a positive and constructive attitude environment onsite
  • Exhibit good manners, respect for the team, subcontractors and clients
  • Consistently work toward a high level of accuracy and efficiency
  • Possess technical and working knowledge of building methods and construction practice; continually learn and develop new skills and capabilities
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain composure in challenging situations
  • Demonstrate accountability
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Working knowledge of layout and install of wall framing, floors and roof systems, stairs, windows, and doors
